Veil of Illusion

January 2021

18”x24”

Acrylic on Canvas

It is strange to see a piece of art that has subconsciously been in your mind for years start to take form and eventually come about. The spiraling hexagonal form in the background and the swirling, spiraling form of the foreground have been forms in my sketchbook for years. It was only until the fall of 2019 where the two forms started to merge together into one whole piece; which eventually happened a year later in the winter of 2020. This painting was one that I struggled with over the course of a whole year primarily in the pandemic lockdown from March 2020 to January 2020. I was beating myself up because it wasn’t happening fast enough but as things go it happened when it did. I was able to see how the collective suffering of humanity had an affect on my art and my mood. It was simultaneously finished at the tail end of the Trump administration, it was finished about 5 months after my mother had passed away, and it was done shortly before I proposed to my partner of 4 years. So an extremely emotional time period to say the least.

Here is the Cipher for the language that I am speaking

Red: Negative

Blue: Positive

Purple: Love, Unity, Divinity

Orange: Fire, Suffering, Intense Change

Green: Life force, prana, chi, earth energy

Black: Void, Emptiness

White: Pure light, Solar Conciousness, Christ Conciousness

Greyscale: Everything between void and pure light

Circular Mandelbrot forms: Representations of the unseen, all knowing, all loving mind of the universe

Gold: precious, sacred, End result of alchemical transmutation

Rainbow: Visible light spectrum of human beings, Representation of the unique human experience

Rainbow shells around eyes: The human ego

Fluorescent UV colors: Sight beyond eyesight, Intuitive sight, seeing beyond normal waking conciousness, Implication of unseen dimensions right in front of us

In this piece I expand upon this language to extend into the various planes of reality. These are purely symbolic because I am only a human being, but it is an attempt to show that life extends well beyond the human ego. I am not sure as to how far it goes (or anyone) but the combinations of color and form are very deliberate and intentional from my end. The most obvious planes can be stated here. The earth and the ouroboros are of the physical plane which is exclusively bound by time. The mental plane is represented by the outward spiral from the earth. The causal plane is depicted as the Venn diagram in the spirals. The fluorescent zig zags are a representation of the astral plane. All of the different planes spiral into one another to form the mass manifestation that we call “reality.” The magnetic field of earth is depicted here as well which is also the same that passes through our individual bodies.
