The Infinite Muse

May 2018

Glass - Wood - acrylic paint - adruino

This sculpture was the center piece of my senior thesis in 2018. The original was partially destroyed in an oil spill in 2019 and is one that I would like to revisit sometime soon. It was a huge milestone for me technically and conceptually as far as sculpture goes. While I would have liked it to be cleaner (was on a very tight schedule); I ultimately am very proud of the concept and execution of this piece of art.

Green: Life force, prana, chi, earth energy

Black: Void, Emptiness

Circular Mandelbrot forms: Representations of the unseen, all knowing, all loving mind of the universe

Gold: precious, sacred, End result of alchemical transmutation

Rainbow: Visible light spectrum of human beings, Representation of the unique human experience

The pedestal is made of wood and acrylic paint; whereas the globe sitting on top of the pedestal is made from blown and sandblasted glass. I wanted to show the world as a sacred infinite expression of creation and miracles. There was an arduino computer inside the pedestal that hooked up to a sensor that translated the amount of movement in the room to the brightness in the center of the globe. So essentially the closer you got to the sculpture the brighter the earth would glow. My intention of doing this was to make the viewer aware of the direct connection between themselves and the rest of the planet.
